Anyone seen this?

My W2K and Xp pro SP1 O/S computers always would download a csv file off a customers website (i.e. when I hit the 'download' button, I would be prompted for where to save it).
Now with our newest PC's that came with Xp pro SP2, when I click the 'download' button, it opens in IE and doesn't separate the information into separate cells.

Anything anyone can suggest to get it to save as a csv file again would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

There is probably a bar at the top of IE that you need to click on and hit allow to download the file.

You could also right click the csv and do a "save as

Thanks,
The download button on thier website doesn't give me an option to right click or select save-as. If I right click the browser that the csv loaded into I can save it but all the comma delimited data is put into the first cell for each row.

IE allows teh download into a broswer but I will check further in the IE settings to see if there is an option that throws the csv data into a browser instead of presenting me with a download window.

For anyone interested I found a solution.

You need to delete the listing in the 'File Type' tab for csv files in explore.
Open Explore | Tools | Folder Options -> File Type tab
Scroll down and find the CSV extension and delete the entry.

XP SP2 adds an entry in here for CSV file extensions that have not been there in past O/S's. Deleting this entry will then prompt to "save" a csv file when you clicked on a download of this file type.

Have a good one all!
Greg

What you could have also done was modify the existing association to change this action. If you highlight the CSV extension and click on the Advanced button, one of the tick boxes at the bottom of the box says "Confirm Open After Download". If this is unticked, it will always launch the attachment in the existing IE Window. With it ticked, it always prompts to open the file, which then launches into whatever application it is configured to do so.
