I'll be installing new CS1000E soon. I am very familiar with the CS1000M, but this is my first 1000E. I'm reading NTPs, but they are notorious for being useless! I need to find SME to provide remote support (and pre-install planning support). Any advice on where/how to find SME?

all i've seen is the ntp's and yes they are not easy or very helpfull unless you know what your looking for.. and if you know the answer then why look them up?

notorious for being useless? Hmmm.... have to take mine out back and burn them, or give them to JP and let him use his Rugers on them.

if only the phonebook and web were not useless too....you could look up any Vendor to help.......

i used the phonebook and web... found many vendors who know cs1km. but when i ask about cs1ke they have very little to say.

what are some of the key differences in configuration of cs1ke vs. cs1km? i think i'm OK with the hardware. but i'm sure there are some "surprises" awaiting me in area of software/configuration...

any golden nuggets of wisdom out there?

1 major diff is IPE, shelves of 0-15 are gone. SLP shelf gives you 4 slots MGC w/ expander = 8. You can have a lot of mgc w/ expanders. if you slp 4 and it was not segmented (0-15 slots on old system)

4-0-1 0-31
4-0-2 0-31
4-0-3 0-31
4-0-4 0-31
expander
4-0-7 0-31
4-0-8 0-31
4-0-9 0-31
4-0-10 0-31

expander could have been:
4-1-1
4-1-2
4-1-3
4-1-4

i read somewhere that the physical vs. logical shelf numbering was mis-printed in some Nortel docs.

Also, when building new shelves and assignng loops numbers, is it true that you should start with highest loop numbers and work toward lower loop numbers?

I don't know anything about mis-print. Going high and working down is, has been, typical for Phantom and Virtual, bear in mind the E is an ethernet IP solution, you can have 22,500 IP sets. DLC, ALC work fine, I use lower loops multi of 4 as usual. Conf/TDS start at 200 & 201. 5,6 are pre-designated for their funtion, forgot though! but that is why 1-4 7-10 on card slots. My PRIs are high nmbers on the network side of life.

let me clarify you still can get 16 slots on the same loop though 2 mgc w expanders, just that it follows like - 4 0 - 1-4 & 7-10 and 4 1 1-4 7-10
