Well I have spent the past few weeks with the viens on my forehead poking out. We were installing a CS1000E. I hope to never do that again. The fact that there are no trunks except copper in the E brought many issues to light I had never thought of. All digital trunks must come through the CS1000T which is really a CS1000S with no telephone ism's save the 3 for mtc sets. The big fat issue that is still glaring us in the face is the fact that all the modems in the building no longer work. So we call Nortel GNTS guess what? They do not support modems in the CS1000E. Also the faxes don't work. Nortel says they should work if we manually lock every fax in the building down to 14400. WHY DOES NORTEL NOT HAVE THIS DOCUMENTED???? For now all the modems and faxes we have are routed out our copper backup trunks in the CS1000E and that seems to work ok but the cannot recieve incomming calls since all DID numbers are routed to the PRI circuts. Also all the non PRI circuts that come into the T show the caller ID of all 00000000's which is pretty annoying when CallPilot reads that back to you instead of just saying its an unknown number. One more gripe for the Nortel gods. Why does the I2xxx series not come up by default with call timer and DTMF tones turned on. Why would you not make the Phones imitate the 3900 sets as close as possible. It is a real pain to go to each phone and turn that stuff on.

one of the things that bleeding edge Technology is good for. i would suggest a backup opt 11 for your analog needs, but i'm sure nortel has put that on the table. your vendor should have forseen that problem. it's one of the 1st things i check, those analog needs as well as alarm and paging access. you can put 0000000 in as a voice service and at least get callers to a menu service, dial thru, express mail or anything is better then what you have. another option is in ld 49 idc table, convert 0000000 to xxxx and that is routable.. i would let my VENDOR buy me a tdm switch to complete the job

The Media Gateway should allow you to utilize analog ports for Fax/Modems. Universal trunk cards can be utilized to terminate direct COTs into the system, again utilizing a slot in the media gateway.

Or...you could have your telco point the fax numbers to the DID and then have the system route them to the analog ports directly. Outdialing would utilize a 9 plus the number to go out over the PRIs in the system (they are two way) The PRIs would be set up in trunk groups for outbound dialing and you shouldn't have an issue.

Do you have an appropriate distributor installing this for you? It sounds like they didn't go through system planning with you because the issues you raise are not issues with the system and wouldn't be an issue at all if the planning was done ahead of time.

In terms of documentation - there is gads of it available and if you really want it I can provide it to you. You don't need to "lock your faxes down to 14.4" not sure where that input came from.

In regard to inbound services reading back as all zeros - why would you be using copper trunks without CLID for inbound service anyway if you have PRIs? Typically you would use copper trunks for backup or outbound, but not inbound. It sounds like you need someone to come in there and redo your system.

No I think Nortel needs to rethink this whole platform it sucks. If you think it was the vendors fault think again because Nortel Professional services was contracted to do the install and the turned around and sent their own contractor out.

all of those problems should have been addressed prior to the install. any decent tech would cut a system without addressing those concerns. i have had installs where the customer had zero problems post cut.. nortel services usually does a better job, not better thena good vendor, you ended up with a software geek, that didn't come from the voice side.. no training or certification will replace 30 years on the job. without have anyway to know, i would bet that your lead tech was under 25.. sorry for the bad cut but any platform is only as good as the roll out.. here in town my crew has maybe 300 years total time on the job, i've only got 37 and have not had a bad cut in 20 or more.. get your money back, find a vendor that knows the job
