CS1000E FAXES NOT SENDING OR RECEIVING

I have 6 11C's that have been upgraded to CS1000E's Rls 6.0.
All of them are co-res cppm. Most of them are multiple cabinet with MGC cards. On all of the systems I cannot send or receive faxes. I have checked the settings in the MGC VGW codec profile and node profile. All of them have current patches as of 29 Sept 2010. Any ideas?
 
where does the fax fail? you can dial from analog to analog fax.. or is it your cp fax server that's failed

its analog to analog. I just checked and they are able to receive faxes but not send across the pri or h.323 trunks.
 
A major problem with release 6 is the new CLS MPTA for Fax's and modems etc. You may want to change it from the default of MPTD.

I did put mpta in the cls of all faxes and modems.
 
cls faxa? can not send over the pri's is key.. a lot of places to break h.323 trunks but the pri's has been a feature for decades.

when does it fail.. you can place the call, get answer tone? toggle the vsel, usually vce works but dependant on your provide 3vce or vce may be all it takes.. and trad the call to see if your getting fail masgs

Are you having fax your issues where the analog card is in the same cabinet with the PRI cards? Or are the problems only with faxes that have to jump from one cabinet to another via IP?
 
Thanks for the input. I was wondering if it was a problem with the MGC's. all of the TN's are in the second cabinet. The TMDI is in the main cabinet with the CPPM. you can make a phone call on these lines with a butt set but not fax or modem. Do you think it could be a problem with the DSP's on the MGC. One of the problems I am having is with alarm panels need to dial out to a service. The tek support for the alarm guys says the panels need analog only. Isnt it getting converted to IP thru the MGC and back to hit the PRI? It seems like the calls are failing after the call has been answered and starts sending tones.
 
2 things to check.

1. Stat your DSPs and make sure they are registered and idle in both cabinets. (stat Loop, Shelf, 0 & stat Loop, Shelf, 11) this will list all of the dsps on your media gateway controller.

2. Check your Media Security settings. Log into the UCM, then navigate to the Element Manager for your system. Expand the policies link under the Security heading, and then click on Media. If the 'Media Security (MSEC)' box is checked, try unchecking it, submit your changes, and make a test call.
 
We had a nightmare with this (faxing) when we went to a cs1000e 6.0. Make no doubt, faxing was/is an issue.

CLS FAXA helped ALOT, but we still had some drops.

Make sure that all of your faxes and modems are hardset to transmit at only 14.4 and lower speeds. This may or may not help, but Nortel states that this is a requirement.

Our problems were indeed when calls would hop cabinets, ie pass thu a MGC.

After days of troubleshooting our support gave up and put all of the analog cards in the same cabinet as the t1 cards they used. It was more of a work around than a fix, but I do trust our support as being very knowledgeable. They did open up a number of tickets with Nortel directly, and still had to resort to this.

Not sure if that helps, just sharing our exp.
 
Thanks for all of the responses. Just to answer some of your questions. Yes all of the DSP channels are idle. I will check out the security settings in UCM. AS for the work around for the alarm panels I will have to get some lines from the telco because it is for weapons storage vaults and I cant be messing around with trying to get the alarm panel to work across IP. Thanks.
 
The loadware was updated in June. I will check the latest versions.
 
We recently upgraded from Cs1K M to CS1K E and we have this same issue (among others). We have changed lines to FAXA, MPTA, changed TNs, pulled new cable, limited all machines to 14.4kbps, rebuilt lines, reseeded cards, and confirmed zone/codec settings and yet everyday it is a new analog problem. Faxes and modems do not synch during their handshake and we are recieving 10% (estimatation) failure on all fax calls. We have started to resort to dedicated lines for critical applications, which chafes me since this PBX is almost 30 years old and was rock solid. I am growing frustrated with the Avaya responses, and am curious...does anyone have a fix to provide reliable analog services?
 
CLS FAXA MPTD will work.

If not, set the fax quality to standard (not fine or superfine) at fax machines. It was said that the maximum fax rate was 32kbps at CS1000E RLS 6.
 
Make sure all of your Media Gateways are configured the same. The Maximum Rate, Playout Delay, and FAX packet size and no activity timeout fields should be configured the same for all MGCs. Did you check the T.38 Fax codec? It should have a check mark there. You should also check these settings in the Node config parameters. We've had success using CLS MPTD and FAXA.
