Have a cs1000E 7.5 and need to make wireless voip work. We have a nortel wlan system with wmm enabled. I have tried to make a nortel 6120 work but never been able to. We do not have the nortel application gateway but as I understand it I dont need one with my current release. Anyone had any success with this. I will use any type of set that I need.

We are using 6140 handsets with a CS1000E 7.5 system. You don't need the application gateway. If you are using Spectralink phones like the Nortel 6120 or 6140, you do need a 2245 wlan IP telephony manager.

We use 6120's and we have the wireless QoS Manager installed.

The way our wireless phones work is like this:

1. The phones power up and are assigned IP addresses on the Wireless Network.
2. The phones talk to the QoS Manager, and the QoS Manager assigns a proxy address for the wireless phone.
3. The proxy address registers to the VoIP node signaling servers.

So there is no direct communication between the wireless phone IP address and the CS1000 VoIP node - everything is proxied through the QoS manager, so that QoS can be 'injected' onto the communication streams.

You do not need the 2245 if you are running latest software on your handsets and your WLAN is WMM-capable. Check the Spectralink VIEW guides at for configuration information. The 6120/6140 correspond to Spectralink 8020/8030. Make sure that your 6120/6140 is configured with WMM and not SVP.
