All,

I have a CS1000E RLS 5.5 with IOD0040 errors popping up during the midnight routine and sometimes during the day.

The error points to TTY ports 1 & 2 which happen to be the two MGCs.

IOD0040 Error
TTY or printer n is not emptying the output buffer. Output circuitry on pack is faulty. The device is disabled. Probable fault is on pack in question. This information is also displayed on the maintenance display. If fault persists after pack is replaced, suspect:

1. Miscellaneous pack on active CPU
2. Other serial data interface

When I stat the TTY ports in LD 37 they both show that they are still enabled.

Also, a problem has been developing where audio keeps cutting in/out for callers on the distant end of the phone call. I don't know if this problem is related or not but I am having the LEC take a look at the ciruit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would try reseating the cards and then run midnights while you are sitting in front of the command line terminal. Better yet I would run midnights first and then look at the tty ports after it completes.

If flow control is switched on with nothing connected then the buffer can't empty. If flow control is off then the switch will happily send out data even if nothing is connected.

Can you print the relevant ADAN TTY programming?
Do the ports work if you connect something?

If you do connect something then and get screens of data it's probably down to flow control - switch is emptying the buffers.

Another option is that BUG, MTC or similar are set on that TTY and it's filling up faster than it can empty, but that's unlikely if TTY is set at a decent baud rate (9600 or higher).
