We currently have a CS1000 running rls 6.0. We have PassPlus and wanted to take advantage of the latest upgrade.
I am being told by my vendor that under PassPlus that the software is free but we have to purchase Session Manager and System Manager. ($8,000.00 each)Plus Avaya prof services because they are the only ones who can install. (another 12,000)

I understand having to upgrade existing cards like the MIRAN we have due to new release.

Is it required to have System and Session Manager installed just to get to rls 7.5?

Again we have a CS1000, two sig servers, still using digital tels but have about 50% IP phones now. We have 25 SIP trunks for communications between locations.

7.5 is Avaya's way of forcing you to merge with their own Aura product, yet it's simply not worth the time and effort (and money!) if you are already at release 6.0.

I've jut done the 7.5 boot camp course and was very sad to see it's all about putting the final nails in the coffin for the Nortel product.

You don't have to use Session Manager!. It's widely known that some parts of Europe are very annoyed and have purchased just one H323 licence, causing Avaya to back down on Session Manager and let you use NRS. We used NRS on the course!.

On another thread, I stated that TM was merged with Element Manager at 7.5, but now all the scheduling features are missing. This means that all the automated functions such as Corporate Directory, Station Admin retrieval, list manager now have to be done manually each and every time you want to update the database!.

Also installing the X-One commmunicator was a pain and is so bad, that you have to manually edit the hidden Config file on the users computer in order to get the damm thing to work. Stick with the 2050's!.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I can see it's just a money making exercise on Avaya's part.

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

I have a big concern with the astrinomical cost of PassPlus that we purchased in the first place. Not taking advantage of the releases as the come out will be a waiste of our PassPlus purchase.
I have a PBX vendor, one of the larger in the US, and still forced into an Avaya level support contract.

Can we still do the software portion of the release, removing the cost of the session and system manager or do we have to do both in order to make 7.5 work?

I worked for Blackbox and was upgrading an Option 11 to a 1000E and was told we couldnt install Session Manager bedcause we weren't certified as a company to install the software. We either had to not install or pay Avaya to come to the site to install.

Thanks,

Buddy

I can't comment on "PassPlus" as I've never seen or heard of it. All that I can say is that it's possible that Avaya will update to release 8.0 and then in stages 8.1, 8.2 etc. It's thought that 8.4 will be the end, but I can't confirm this. Either way, it's the end of the road.

Thanks. Maybe time to look at a differant PBX vendor.

Buddy, we're certified now - at least one of us in TAC is now certified; done the ride-alongs, etc. I forget all the requirements, but we're selling it now.

The official word is that SM and SMGR are required for 7.5, but we have several sites on 7.5 without; including our own lab last time I looked.
