I have crystal loaded on my laptop. My office is in NC, but our databases are in NH.

When I'm in the office, I have no problems with Crystal.
However, when I try to work from home and connect to the office (NC) via vpn, Crystal hangs indefinitely. I can open the Crystal app with no problem, but as soon as I hit the "new" icon it freezes.

I can open and refresh existing reports with no problem. But I can't create new reports.

Any ideas?

Do you have a kind of remote desktop application? Or where do you run crystal? Is it on a server at the office? or locally, only connection to databases via vpn?

Crystal is loaded locally on my laptop. VPN is only used for connecting to the databases.

I have been able to identify that it hangs when the report access the database expert. I can open, edit, and refresh existing reports. As long as I don't access the Database Expert, Crystal works fine. Obviously, that excludes creating new reports.

You're able to open/edit/refresh data, so it doesn't sound like a firewall issue.

I don't know what database you are accessing, but could it be that there is a different security configuration in place for VPN access as opposed to from your office?

I thought about that, except I'm not even getting a chance to choose my connection. For all Crystal knows, I could be connecting to a database located on lap top.

Is this for any blank report that you cant open the database expert? Even reports that dont have a database assigned to them in any way or form?

Well, than it is safe to say that your remote connection should have nothing to do with it. That is if I understood you correctly and crystal hangs clicking the database expert.

In that case I would reinstall crystal for starters

You do understand correctly. Unfortunately for me, my company keeps the media in our New Hampshire office so it looks like I won't be working from home any time soon.

I guess that even a repair option requires the software. However, since you are most likely fully licensed you could download the software from the business objects website.

Your problem could be that AutoSmartLinking is set to ON. This will definitely cause a traffic jam but only if you start a new report with more than one table. If you have earlier Crystal (8.5) the AutoSmartLinking is an Options setting; later versions had to be turned off in the Registry.

I'll check the AutosmartLinking. But I'm never getting to the point of selecting a table. As soon as I click the new icon (or File --> New), Crystal goes to lunch, and dinner, drinks, etc.

Hello, I´m having the same problem. Has anyone solved it?

I still say download the latest version and reinstall the program and then let us know
