I have reports residing on the crystal report server XI,these reports use ADO.Net datasets.these reports are accessed and viewed from a asp.net web application. now my question is how does the back ground processing work. are the reports processed on the web server or CE server.

Hi,
IIRC, the web app ( therefore the web server) creates the dataset ( if data is on a remote database, that server is also involved at this point) and passes it to the CR where the CR Server takes over processing and returning the data to the viewer.
So, both ( or maybe 3 ) servers are involved, with the biggest load on the web server ( depending on how well the query to the database is constructed, else the database server does most of the work)

Thanks for the response, so am I right when i say the data(dataset or datatable)is shipped to Crystal Enterprise server and the report is processed (binding data to report and formating) and Rendered back to crystalreport viewer

Hi,
I believe so, but check out the docs from SAS ( formerly from Business Objects) - they may have an architecture diagram that shows work flow..

That should be SAP not SAS ( Both good companies)
