Hello,
We are currently using CR 2008 as well as Crystal Server 2008. One thing we have found is that CS is fiddly when it comes to updating existing reports.

The process we are currently following is as follows:
1. Develop report in CR 2008 on separate server.
2. Log into Crystal Server and open CMC.
3. In folders, add newly developed report by browsing to correct location. Save report
4. Set up all necessary default settings (ie recurrence, format etc). Then set up necessary Schedule.

This all works fine.

As users can be fickle and reports need tweaking/amending/re-doing etc. Any changes from minor to major result in needed to create a new Crystal Server document as per the steps above.

5. Remove any pending instances of the report and rename report to XXX OLD, to keep history.
6. Follow steps 3+4 above, ensuring that you copy all settings from the previous version.

As you can imagine this can be a little time consuming.

Is there a way to "Update" the report without having to make a new instance?

If the answer is no, which is what I suspect, is there a better application which can be used to schedule reports to users? The users do not access CS at any time, all the reports are automated directly into users email inboxes.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Open the report in Crystal, Save As, Enterprise, provide the login credentials for your Crystal Server, save over the top of the existing report. This way you keep all of the existing instances and most, if not all of the default settings (sometimes it will lose the database password if you're setting that in teh CMC.)

However, you will still have to reset the report schedules. When you schedule a report it keeps a copy of the rpt template as it existed at the time of the schedule. Updating the report template does NOT update what the existing schedule is using for its report.
