Hi,
I work for an insurance company and deal with technical support for the quotataion CD sent out to our users. This is programmed with Visual Basic 6 and Crystal Reports is used to print off application forms. However we have a few on-going problems. Some users press the print button and nothing happens and some users can only print out either just the first or the first two pages of the application form (the full application is three pages long)
This also only seems to happen with HP deskjet printers. I have already tried re-installing the printer drivers which doesn't make a difference. Does anyone have any ideas?

We have had a similar problem with reports through VB. It turns out that we didn't have a printer set up on the machine we create our OCX's on. Installed a printer, rebuilt the OCX's and hey presto, the reports print.

Hi JulianS,
Sorry if this sounds a bit silly and naive but I am slightly new to this game!! But the software has been given out to at least 10 thousand users. At the moment we have this problem with about 10 users. Would the developers have to re-program something here and send out new software to these users with the problem or is there an OCX file that I can simply register for these users?

Hi,

All you need do is just supply the rebuilt ocx's to those who are unable to print.

Ok, thank you very much for your help...can you tell me which OCX's need to be re-built?
(sorry if I am asking lots of silly questions...the developers and programmers are not here at the moment so I am just trying to get to the bottom of this myself!!)
Thank you

Jennifer,

My first thought is that you should install the latest printer drivers on the PCs that misbehave. If that doesn't work, check what is the default printer on the PCs that misbehave and compare that to the PCs that are fine.

Do you happen to know if the Viewer application was created using the 8.5 runtime components (or is it compatible with Crystal 9.0 reports as well)?

Does the Viewer let the users select a printer?

Is the problem occuring for all reports on the "bad" PCs?

Is the problem related to page orientation (e.g., only landscape)?

Is this a Terminal Services environment by any chance?

Cheers,

Hi Jennifer,

As far as the .OCX's go, they will be the ones relating only to the failing reports. Don't know what you're knowledge level is, but you may not be able to identify them.

Be worth trying Ido's suggestions though.

Hello!!
Well after the ocx suggestion, I serached within the directory for our software and found an ocx file which I registered and this has now fixed the problem for not printing at all!!! So thank you very much I now have some happy clients!!
The only thing I have to fix now is with the application form when only 1 page or 2 pages will print from the three page application form. I will try regsitering the ocx file again (long shot?!) and pass on your info to the developers...in meantime if anyone has any other suggestions I will be very grateful!!!
Thanks for your help

Hi IdoMillet (and anyone else!)
After seeing your questions I went and had a look into everything you asked...

1. The application was created using 8.5 runtime components so isn't compatible with 9.0. However it is not actually a viewer that is created. We simply reference the craxdrt.dll.

2. The Users are able to select a printer.

3. The problem does not occur for all reports on the "bad" PCs.

4. The problem is not related to Page Orientation as we had already checked this.

5. And finally No it is not a Terminal Services environment.

I have also in the past already tried to re-install the printer drivers but again with no luck!!

Hope this info is useful for any other ideas, thank you very much for your help!

Jenniferlynn,

You said that you fixed the problem by registering an ocx. Was this a CR ocx? (if so, which one?) or was it one of your software's ocx's?

We are having the problem where users click on the Print Button in the viewer, but nothing happens.

Thanks!
