Hi,

This maybe a silly question but I need to check anyway

I used to have crystal reports on an old nt machine and I used to be able to login on my pc and edit the reports that were scheduled to run in the program, they were sent to a mailbox, since then our IT personnel has changed and we have had pc upgrades and have lost the old version and now we would like to revert back to scheduled crystal reports, so I contacted IT and they purchased crystal reports XI standard edition, which I believe if I am correct will not allow me to schedule reports within crystal, I dont want to use a third party program to schedule reports, i wish to use Crystal,

Can someone confirm which version is best suited for my needs,

We use a avaya definity system if this helps and it is an older version.

Thanks in advance

Hope this is of use, Rob.[yoda]

Hi
in Cr XI there the crystal server
that i used to schedule my report

Durango122
if it moves and should not used Duck Tape
if does not move and should used WD-40

hi not sure what you mean,

Will I be able to get the avaya info from my machine using the package they pruchased, could I then use
this to schedule the reports.

I dont want to open the box until I have confirmed this.

Hope this is of use, Rob.[yoda]

What is the database/datasource that you are trying to report against...?

If it's a network datasource (ODBC, OLE DB, and JDBC connectivity to relational, OLAP, XML, legacy, and enterprise data) - you will need at least PROFESSIONAL.

STANDARD only includes connectivity to PC-based data sources.

I have no idea why BOBJ even sells STANDARD....

thanks mjrbim for your response,

so if I what to be able to setup scheduled reports from an avaya definity switch (lucent), I would require a professional version with ODBC in definity?

if this is the case we do not have the ODBC setup on the system, so would then require a server version?

Thanks for all your help on this.

Hi,

The Standard version of XI version does not have a free scheduler with it like the old one used to. The Professional version comes with a time limited version of Crystal Reports Server. They have switched so that the scheduling only comes when purchased with the Server Version - which is substantially more expensive than the Professional Designer.

However, I did find that if you register the Evaluation Key that comes with the proffesional version, they give you a peranent 5 named user license - for development test only of course.

hi,

you said

did you mean a permanent 5 named user licence, would this allow me to then do what I require, barring in mind I dont have any odbc setup on the switch.

thanks for your help

Hi,

The two questions are different.

Your ODBC connection is for data connectivity - if your reports reference the data via ODBC then tht is for data access - it is nothing to do with scheduling.

The scheduling will be done on the Version XI Server, with an ODBC connection for data connections.

Does that help ?

professional comes with a time limited version of server, you then mentioned about the "I did find that if you register the Evaluation Key that comes with the proffesional version, they give you a peranent 5 named user license - for development test only of course." does this mean I could schedule with professional?

so this means also that all the required parts to get access to the data would be within crystal pro.

thanks for your input.

Hope this is of use, Rob.[yoda]
