I am in the process of purchasing Crystal Reports ver 8.5 (developers edition), could somebody please confirm the following.

1. Do I need to perform any conversion of my previous reports that were developed using CR ver 4 (i.e. the one that ships with VB6) ?

2. Can I use CR 8.5 with VB6 (i.e. exactly the way I currently use CR4 with VB6) ?

3. Is CR 8.5 the latest version ?

Thanks to those who kindly responded to these questions, much appreciated.

v8.5 is currently the latest version, although the beta program for v9 is currently underway.

v4.6 uses the OCX and this is still available in v8.5, although v8.5 strongly encourages you to use the RDC.

Theoretically your reports should go forward from 4.x to 8.x with no problem. All you do to update the report is open it in 8.5 and save it. There is even a utility that you can buy that will do a batch of reports at once.

However, I have heard that making a jump of more than 2 versions can sometimes cause problems. Haven't hit them myself. Ken Hamady, On-site Custom Crystal Reports Training & Consulting

1. After you open an old report, you can save it to the new format.

2. You can continue to use the OCX technology, but it was obsoleted as of V6. You should start using the RDC technology.

3. Yes
