Please help. I am new to Crystal reports and am trying to connect to a database on a SQL Server 2008 installation running locally.

I created a new connection OLE DB (ADO) and then chose Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server. I get the error message below.

Logon failed
Details: ADO Error code: 0x
Source: Microsoft SQL Server Native client 10.0
Description login failed for user 'Server1\user'.
SQL State: 28000
Native error: [Database vendor code: 18456 ]

I also geta a similar message when try the SQL Server Native Client 10.0

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

theevilone,

I am also trying to learn to use Crystal Reports. I am using Crystal Reports 11.5 too, but our department is using Visual Studio 2005 with Crystal Reports 10 embedded.

The error you are getting sounds like to me that you do not have adequate permissions to use the database in the server you are trying to attach to. Check your permissions. This is probably the issue.

I got these same errors too and had to get the network people to give me adequate permissions to use the databases in the server. You probably will have to get permissions for all of the databases in the server you wish to connect and attach to.

As you know, security today is a big issue with databases and your network people have probably fixed your data bases with strict security for protection. A Database Administrator could probably help you if one is available.

Hope this helps.

I have found the best way to approach database security is via the logins. I am running XI, on a SQL 2005, and I setup a single login for the database.
