Correct, the ActiveX viewer doesn't support all the new features - but the Page Rendering in the DHTML is much better (grey area on border) so that you can clearly see the actual page size in the browser.

Also, since they now have the free RPT viewer that is "agnostic" for Java or .Net deployments I expect the ActiveX viewer will eventually fade-away.

Looking forward to being a contining part of the "broader Crystal ecosystem to consult and train on the product.

BTW there is a new EULA on the BO Web site that doesn't have the restrictions on consulting. Still some questions on training but moving in the right direction.

Jambu :

Yes, CR-2008 Beta will install side-by-side with CR 10 or XI - but with two provisos -

1.) It's unidirectional, CR-2008 will open RPTs created in CR-10 or XI, those older apps won't open CR-2008 RPT files. Gave me two different errors - one stating new features that couldn't be opened, another saying the RPT file was not recognized or corrupt. So if you are playing with the BETA don't "Save" any Production CR-10 or XI reports.

2.) When you uninstall the Beta from Add/Remove programs you lose the file-association with the any version of CR, and need to set it back to your earlier version in order for the icons to appear again.

It's BETA software - so if you can put it on a stand-alone PC or Virtual Machine.

We will be waiting until all the features are supported on the Enterprise (Release 3?) before we can consider a deployment of 2008 (aka 12).

I think my favorite CR-2008 feature is the reporting from web-based XML databases. I would like to see BOBJ put some of their "on-demand" databases (eg. govt population stats, etc) on-line in that format so that I can mix external data with secure internal data on reports.

Imagine a "Sales by Population" report that could be tied to current govt population stats rather than some annual stats import into an internal db.

What is the major difference between the Activexviewer and DHTML viewer? Will it be a seamless transition if I have to change? I enforce ActiveX viewer in the link..

If anyone was waiting, the full CR 2008 product has just been made available for download / sale.
