Crystal Report Version Upgradation

Maybe you can help.

We installed Crystal 9 and converted the report from 8.5. That worked fine, except that the reports are extremely slow - what took second in 8.5 takes now minutes. We also purchaes version 10 and converted to that version. With version 10, the reports are as fast as with 9.

Any idea why it is so slow ?

Did you look at the Hardware requirements and memory. if the 2 later versions of Crystal reports need a lot more resources you may need to upgrade the Computer it is on either the OS or the amount of memory available

Is there any factor other than the resources ( memory etc..) ?

Do you have any idea of what are the h/w and s/w requirement for the specific version of Crystal Reports.

What database and connection method are you using ?

Check the SQL generated by the different reports, Database Menu -> Show SQL Query. Is the SQL the same for all 3 versions ?

BO/Crystal admit that CR9 is slower than 8.5 - it's in their training guide for tech support. The database driver bit was totally rewritten for 9.
The problem is supposed to be fixed in CR10 though I've not tested it thoroughly.

I think I found the problem - CRYSATL 9 has a new feature: You can't edit the generated SQL query anymore, but you can define your own query (called a command).

The generated Query does not include the parameters anymore - you have to define your own query and put them back in. That explains why it's so slow - instead of selecting only data for a specific contract, CRYSTAL fetches the data for all contracts from the server and selects the data necessary from there.

Can anybody focus more on this... ? It will be really helpful.

Commands do indeed support parameters, but you have to set them up when creating the Command.
