Crystal Report 9 Viewer - Report Generation Slow

I am having problem with the response time of the Crystal Report Engine. As I am using the old method of what I did in CR 7, where I need to set every single tables location in order to make my report portable across multiple database with different name but same structure.

In the previous edition of Crystal Report, this method is running smooth & fine. However when I switch the development platform to CR 9 & VB.Net, it just going very slow for the first time of loading report from a CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument to the CRViewer and preview to the user.

Therefore may I know is there any better way, or method where I can optimized the processing speed for the very fisrt time of printing?
Or there is a better approach to achieve my above objective?

Consider using the RDC:

It's the preferred method.

Thanks for the suggestion.
However it's only contains sample in VB6 and I assume there might be new methods available in the .Net Framework.
Furthermore, for us to use the RDC, do we need to purchase extra license?

I believe you only need to purchase a licence if you use the methods in it that can create, modify, and save reports. And I wouldn't think there'd be any methods available in .Net that aren't available in all other languages that can use the RDC.
