Some of our developers have been working with this. Their comparison point is 8.0 and said it is a vast improvement. The biggest is that it now has true UNIX support which they like. Even though it is beta they have found it to be much more stable than 8 as well.
We managed to get a pre release to try and resolve an issue regarding the switching of datasources and then scheduling the reports.
First impressions are its a very good product. They have introduced a meta data layer to simplify/restrict report writing. You can switch data sources at will. This is now a parameter on the actuall report. It's designed so the report writer can develop against a test database, and then release it to live with no rework. Works very well!
They still have no fix for dynamic parameter picklists...a little dissapointing considering they have put the switching of datasources in there.
In terms of other changes, there are many, but have been busy concentrating on delivering the solution I set out to finish last year...
It's due for release end on Jan I'm reliably informed...
Just got copies of CE 10 and CR 10 (45-day demos) from BO. I will be setting-up them both on a clean Windows 2000 Server box tommorrow.
I'll post comments and feedback when I have them - including the BETA test for the "PeopleSoft Solutions Kit for Crystal Enterprise 10" which should be starting in the next few weeks.
Any of you that have received a trial copy of CE 10, have you paid for the full version? I was just talking to my sales rep about upgrading to 10 from 9 and mentioned that the decision process (and the upgrade) would go much smoother if we could receive a trial copy of CE 10 first. She said that "there are no trial copies of CE 10". Ha ha! Either:
1. She wants us to hurry up and commit to the upgrade and doesn't want us to spend our time testing 10
OR
2. She was just moved from the Business Objects sales team to the CE sales team and really doesn’t know anything about CE yet
My guess is the latter.
Either way, if any of you can tell me how you sweet talked your sales rep that would be greatly appreciated!
How about the Broadcast licensing on CE10 and CR10? Do we still have the restrictions to buy additional licenses for sending attachments in email to more than 50 (5 CAL * 10) people? Any ideas?
We were given 45-day evaluation keys for both CE-10 and CR-10 by our pre-sales rep. He also provided us with the FTP information, and passwords for the ZIP files.
The header of our CE10 Crystal Management Console says...
"This copy of Crystal Enterprise is licensed to be used for evaluation or development purposes only"
Our Key says "Crystal Enterprise Professional Version -EXPIRES: 2004-03-12"
Apparently, our current S/M agreement gives us "no cost" upgrade to the current software relase as long as we are current with our S/M payments.
You might want to chase this up with your pre-sales people...
I like most of the audit and notification functions in CE-10...they were pretty easy to set-up.
My only concern with them is that the notifications and audit flags have to be set on each individual ReportObject. I need to play around, but as yet I haven't found a method of setting auditand failure notification as a DEFAULT for all ReportObjects.
I'm going to do some more work on Friday, and start looking at the new Active Directory authentication.
We got given a 30 day trial version from our account manager for CE10, CR10 and Analysis 10. They were keen for us to commit to more licences, etc prior to releasing the software to us. All to do with the change over to BO I think.
The software has now been released and being shipped to companies on a maintenance contract apparently...that was last week and still no sight of ours!
