Hello,

I've just started working on BOXIR2, but i only have experience of Crystal Reports. We have a BO Premium Licence, and so i thought i'd be able to easily use an evaluation copy of Crystal XI to show them the benefit of using Crystal alongside Webbii and Voyager.

However i'm struggling to run and schedule a simple report within Infoview. I developed the report in Crystal then saved it to the Enterprise. It seems that the DB log on has failed, even though i gave it correct details. Is this a licensing issue or have i missed some blatantly obvious solution?

Cheers

If you saved the report from the Crystal XI designer to BO, you need to login to the CMC and reset the database login details. The designer does not save the DB login details to the repository when you save the report(!).

You can change the refresh options of the report in the CMC so that any further changes made in the designer and saved to BO will not lose the DB login details.

Thanks Darran6,

but can you tell me whereabouts in the CMC i should reset the login details as i can't find this. I have a couple of books on Crystal, Enterprise and BO and i've not found this before... is this an oversight?

Cheers

In the CMC, find the report object (either list all objects or browse through the folders).

Once you're looking at the report object, you'll have tabs such as Properties, History, Process etc.

Choose Process, then Database. Put your username and password details in there. We also usually choose "Use same database logon as when report is run".

Cheers,

Hi,
If you installed BOE on the web site with the default stuff, use this:

to get to the administrator's launchpad..CMC and InfoView can be accessed from this page as well as very handy tools and docs..

Thanks for all the help,

Found the Process-Database tab, and completed the details as suggested. Do i have to do this for each new report added to Enterprise?!

Anyways... i'm still having the same problem, and receiving the same error message.

I've managed to successfully schedule two reports which access the default SQL Adventure Works SQL Server DB from my local machine. One uses an ODBC SQL Client connection, the other ODBC SQL Server connection. In addition I also successfully scheduled an eFashion report (Access DB on local machine). With each of these reports i modified the Process-DB tab within the CMC.

So it appears that this problem appears to be accessing a SQL 2005 DB on a seperate server. Does the SQL Server need to reside on the same server as BOXI? I somehow think not, but i'm slightly confused to say the least.

Thanks

Flopper,

you need to consider the fact that the BOE XI R2 servers that process your reports (if it is a crystal report then it will be either the Crystal Reports Page Server or the Crystal Reports Job Server) are needing to run the report FROM THE SERVER UPON WHICH THEY ARE RUNNING. Therefore any database connection software or configuration you have on the PC from which you design the reports must also be installed and configures upon the BOE XI R2 server.

Further to this when you publish a report, you are always required to configure the database logon credentials inside of BOE XI R2 for that report.

Another consideration is the windows account under which the BOE XI R2 Servers (or services) run. The default is to have these servers run under the Windows Local System Account. This account may not have sufficient network or database access rights required to perform the database connection or other tasks required. (Such as accessing a network drive or printer if these are required destinations for the output of the report)

Also, there is a tool called the Publishing Wizard that gets installed with a server installation (or a client tools installation) that permits you to configure database logon credentials when you publish a report OR SUITE OF REPORTS. The publishing wizard is useful if you need to publish more than one report ie "bulk publish" a number of reports.

One really useful tip to resolve errors from reports running from BOE XI R2 is ti install Crystal Reports onto the BOE XI R2 server and try running the reports through CR. This can provide you with more meaningful error messages making it easier to resolve the causes of problems.

It is also worth reading the Application log in the Event Viewer to see if that sheds any meaningful light on the causes of your problem.

I could help you further if you provided the EXACT details of the error message you are receiving.
