How do I have a report output to a database (excel or access format) and have subsequent runs of the report append the same database file.
The database file will be accessed by another report periodically to extract information.

Do you need the report (as a report) at all? or are you just using it as a fancy query tool to populate a DB to run another report off of?

Why wouldn't you use Access to perform the query if you want the data in Access format? (I honestly want an answer, not facetious)

I know I am not directly answering your question, but you seem to be trying to eat soup with a knife rather than a spoon...

Thadeus,
Yes, maybe I am using a knife.
I don't know anything about Access.

At this time, I have a crystal report generating an excel output file (data only) that is emailed to me daily. I take the file and append it to a master excel spreadsheet. I would like crystal to output directly to the excel file and append the data each day.

Well, I'm happy you got your answer... that's the most important thing (getting something definitive).

However, I think you ought to investigate one alternate option: Create a query in Excel by using the Get External Data option. This query could be attached to a macro and draw in the new data based on something like "where field_date is less than current_date".

Oh well, good luck to you. And sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

One of the "Report Managers" listed at can append crystal exports as new sheets (tabs) inside an existing excel workbook (file).

I assume that by naming a range to span these sheets, you may be able to use them as if they were a single combined "Table" from the point of view of another Crystal report.

Another option is to use one of the User Function Libraries (see the "Other Utilities" section at that can provide a function toa ppend content to a text file via a formula placed on the report layout.

You can control the output so it is structured, for example, as comma delimited. Then yse a TEXT ODBC driver to access that file as if it is a database.
