Hi All:
I have been writing a report in Crystal 8.5 that is needed to export. The results that are being exported are each coming from subreports ($100,0,0,$25). Here is how it shows on the report:

Br 1 Br 2 Br 3 Br 4
$100 0 0 $25

----------------------------------------
Here is how it exports:
Br 1 Br 2 Br 3 Br 4
$100 $25

**All of the data in the 4th column is coming into the XLS file in the 3rd column. I have checked to make sure that the columns are all lined up and are all the same width. I have been struggling with this for a while. Any help is much appreciated.

CR 8.5 was pretty good at exporting.

Aside from subreports usually being a bad idea, they complicate this.

If the headers are perfectly aligned with the data, then you should be fine, therein lies the rub.

Often people will create a faux group in subreports to act as the page header, such as:

if {table.field} <> "impossible then
"A"
else
"B"

So then you can have the headers in the subreport and suppress the page headers in the main report while the subreport is outputting.

In 2003, there was a change in Crystal 8.5 exporting that improved it a great deal. If your export-choice says things like Excel Extended rather than MS Excel 97, then an update should fix it. I assume 'BO' still has dlls for Crystal 8.5 customers.

You also find Crystal 'helpfully' closing the gaps - I got this once even in Crystal 10. I had:
Code:
[b]Field1 Field2 Field3[/b]
Value1 Value2 Value3
                      Value3
Value1 Value2 Value3
Value3 got shuffled to Value1's column. I solved it by placing blank text-boxes in those columns when there was nothing to show.

K- I cannot put the header in the subreport, as the subreports each show once per row (5 subreports per row).

Madwac- I got the hotfix for this export problem from the BO website (gave me many new DLLs in my C:\WINNT\Crystal folder) but I still only see "Excel Extended" still, not "MS EXCEL" and the report still has the export problem.
I also tried conditionally putting a space character in the formula in the subreport if it is null, but same problem. I even got the same export problem when I conditionally put "None" in the subreport formula!

Thanks for the good ideas. Any others you can give me to try, I would appreciate.

Thanks, Ben

If you still only see "Excel Extended", the new dlls can't have been properly installed.

hello there mr. ben morton.. iv seen your post regarding cr 8.5.. i was wondering maybe you could help me on where can i find a download link or a site on where i can download cr 8.5. it reaally does'nt matter if its a trial version.. iv tried searching fot it on the web, but all i found were higher versions.. i hope you can help me. thanks!

Thanks for the ideas, I tried them all but none seemed to work. I finally ended up using a shared variable (between the subreport and the main report) and passed back this variable and diaplayed it in the main report (instead of diaplaying the subreport). It took a lot of work, but did export correctly. Thanks all for the ideas.
Ben
