I recently updated to Pervasive 8.5 on the server and 8.0 on my client. The Crystal distribution expert(It compiles the report so that I can distribute to other users) is no longer working correctly, I am getting a dexpert.exe generated errors message. Is there something I can do to get it to work again? thanks

Have you tried updating your client to 8.5 as well? Can you post the whole message from dexpert.exe?

I updated to 8.5 and I still get the error "Dexpert.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows you will need to restart program.
An error log is being created

Might be a better topic for one of the many Crystal specific forums. DEXPERT is Crystal's distribution expert - it analyses the report you're trying to compile and/or distribute for DLL's and database drivers it needs to run the report on a workstation that may or may not have the required components. I'd first try to verify the database from within the report designer - select database, verify database. Try creating a new, and simple report and see if it compiles as well. Are you using ODBC or a native connection to Pervasive? One other thing to think carefully about is doing away with the compiler - it's gone in versions 9.0 and above and is no longer supported by Crystal.

The database is fine, I am using an ODBC connection, what other tools can I use besides the compiler? It's too bad because this was working okay for me..

I can't see how this would cause a problem for Crystal - and why it would crash the distribution expert. I've got plenty of clients that upgraded Crystal to 8.5 and downloaded the compiler - unfortunately, they are all on Pervasive 2000. I do have one client that is on Pervasive 8.5 using Crystal 6.0 with the compiler, and everything works OK. Have you tried reinstalling Crystal and/or the distribution expert? Does this problem occur on other workstations with Crystal (if there are any)? Do existing compiled reports run OK on the workstations?

Other options for viewing reports are via ASP, from within VB or .Net applications, or using one of the MANY and NUMEROUS third-party viewers (I'm not a big fan of these). Which method you choose really depends on how many people you have viewing reports at any given moment. The distribution expert was unlimited and royalty free (that's why Crystal has gotten rid of it), but nearly every method of viewing reports now is limited by the number of 'users'. Some editions of Crystal ship with RAS - a light version of Enterprise that web-enables reports, and prompts for parameters. You'd need to research what method would suit you best.

Thanks for the help Peter. I will look into other viewers and the other options you mention.
