I am using Crystal Reports V 5.0.0.108 in conjunction with Macola V 7.5.

Macola used to use Btrieve and now uses Pervaisive SQL.

My problem is in creating new reports. Crystal no longer seems to be able to read the table names correctly from the file - "file.ddf". When I select this file, I should be able to see are all of the available datbase files that Macola has. What I see is half of the database name. Instead of seeing the ARCUSFIL, I see SFIL. Instead of OEORDHDR, I see DHDR. And now, when I select one of these tables, CR can not seem to tell that there are any fields within.

i have tried switching to ODBC, but for some reason this is not working either. I just keep geting an error saying that the ODBC driver was not loaded. i am however able to use this same exact ODBC driver with Access or Excel, so I know everything is set up correctly.

All of my old reports still work, but I can't make any new ones.

Anybody have any idea what I can do to solve this problem??

Thanx!

I have worked with Macola Btrieve, not the newer SQL. If you are using the DDFs then I am pretty sure that you are still trying to use Btrieve. Pervasive is, of course, the company that makes Btrieve.

Does the pervasive SQL come with an ODBC driver? You can't use the same one as Excel or MS Access. You probably need to set up another ODBC connection using the SQL driver. How are you starting the report to get to the data? Ken Hamady

Pervasive SQL Came with an ODBC Driver (Pervaisive Software ODBC-32).

This is the one that I have set up and working correcly with Access and Excel. But CR doesn't seem to like it.

When I enter CR, I select New, Custom, Then Data File. This gets me the farthest. I get to choose which data file (file.ddf) and then I get the display of tables just like I used to, with the huge exception of the incorrect names (SFIL, instead of ARCUSFIL), and CR will not read any of the fields within.

If I select New, custom, SQL, I get to choose which DSN to use, I select the one I set up that works with Access, and it just gives me the error "OBDC Error: [Microsoft][ODBC DLL] Specified Driver could not be loaded."

If I create a new DSN in ODBC Admin, and try to use the SQL Server driver, this driver will not communicate with Macola, and does not make any mention of being related to Pervaisive....

Thank you for the help!

If you have an ODBC driver, then you can't use datafile, you have to use the SQL/ODBC button.

If you create a new DSN you can't use the SQL Server driver (SQL Server is a Microsoft database platform), you have to use the Pervasive SQL driver.

You should be able to use the same DSN that MS access uses to connect to the Macola data through ODBC. I am puzzled as to why Excel and Access can use this DSN, and CR can't. This DSN uses which driver? Ken Hamady

OKay, I actually got an Idea from what you were asking about, and went to check the ODBC drivers that CR has access too, and noticed on the ODBC setup for Crystal that there is a button that says "Drivers" on it. I clicked it and noticed no drivers loaded. Apparently, this is a 16-bit version of ODBC, and needs 16 bit drivers to work. Well, I loaded the 16 bit version of Pervasive SQL, and viola! almost.....

Now I get an error saying "Database Error - You have CR Standard Edition. You need to upgrade to Pro to access this database"

Wouldn't you know it. Just another fabulous Macola experience. They make it sooo difficult to like their software. They upgrade the Database software, which FORCES me to upgrade CR.....

So I guess I am stuck trying to figure out how to get cumbersome Access to use the info that can be so easily manipulated in CR...

Thank you for all of your help!
