I have a customer that has Crystal Reports 10 purchased from Epicore (or an Epicore VAR, I do not know which) I am being told that this version of crystal will not run reports on non-Epicore databases.

I have a hard time believing this.

Can someone confirm this for me one way or another? Or maybe its a licensing restriction, not a phyical restriction?

Any insight appreciated.

I believe that crystal 10 - epicor is a customised solution for epicor. I don't know whether it is restricted or not. It would seem strange, based on the fact that they going full on with SOA and webservices.

What does SOA mean?

Service Oriented Architecture.

I am not sure if the crystal reports from epicor is restricted however , it is a customised solution for the epicor suite of products. I Believe you have to use this crystal product to report off the epicor database.

What type of database is epicor? Is it a proprietary database?

It depends which product your client is using. If it is vantage then the underlying database will be progress, however depending on your clients setup they be using MS SQL server as a broker which they could be reporting off?

This is a special license version given from Seagate to Epicor. You can use it to modify other reports with it but you will be in violation of the license agreement. You better hope your financial auditors or Seagate will not become aware of this.
