Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a way to distribute the Java viewer to users so it can be installed on the client machine ..Due to firewall issues, our external users cannot get the automatic plug-in install to work ( so only get the dreaded X when they visit the page that needs it)..

Thanks..

I don't really know but there's .cab, .jar, and .exe files under the crystalreportviewers11 folder, by viewer type, are these what get installed? Maybe you could distribute the one you want them to use from there?

Hi,
Thanks..
Oddly, I had not noticed the JavaPlugIn setup program even though I thought I had explored the whole directory structure....

I think in XI suite, there are no exe files. This is what BO tech support told me for ActiveX viewer distribution.

Copy the .cab file from the respective viewer and move it to client machine. Right click and extract it. Then right click the .inf file and install the viewer.

To have these steps automated, .msi installer needed to be created for automatic push.

I don't know why BO keep on changing things, but having an EXE makes things much easier:)

Hi,under
\Program Files\Business Objects\common\3.5\crystalreportviewers115\JavaPlugin\Win32
you will find ( at least I found):

j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe

hmmm...interesting......I think the steups are different for different viewers.

Between, how come you have 3.5 folder. Are you on XI Release 2.

My setup has 3.0 and I am on XI with SP1.

Hi,
Yes, it is Release 2 ( even more differences in naming conventions - like
\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5 not 11
It appears that I may have posted ( spoken) too soon..

If I try to run that exe file, the windows installer throws an error that says that the system administrator has not allowed this install to run.

Odd...( I'm the system administrator) - I suspect that it can only be run as part of the Business Objects plug-in installation process ( must be a run-time redistribution limitation)
