We have an 81C, all T1 trunks and all phones either 3904 or IP 1120. Lot of the sets set up as acd. User saying they are hearing other phone calls on their sets. These other calls they hear they cannot talk to. This is in a call center environment. Any ideas. Thanks in advance for any help.

The DS1 cable can only be grounded if it has a SHIELD!

CAT 5/5E/6, etc is NOT DS1 cable, and it not typically shielded!

I don't think grounding would have any affect anyway...crosstalk denotes analog and T1 signaling is packetized digital.

You can have digital crosstalk! What do you think NEXT and FEXT are? DS1 is susceptible to both of those, just like Ethernet on UTP. That is also why the DS1 specification calls for individually shielded pairs for TX and RX!

Now in the case of the Option 81C, you should assign the Call Trace feature an access code, then allow it in all station COS. So next time a station is on a call with crosstalk they can generate a Call Trace record. That may at least point you in the direction of the problem facility. Then you can troubleshoot from there.

When I used to take care of two Option 61s, we used the Call Trace feature all the time to track down problems. Those Meridian switches have some very good tools, if you know how to use them!

You are right, of course, and I stand corrected...the last test that my WaveTech does is the Near End XTalk test...

Sorry guys, I did not realize that you have a built in CSU.

T1 connections from CSU to CPE T1 do have individual TX/RX shielding. If you are extending through a plant, you better have a shielded cable and ground one end.
Not only would you hear cross talk, you will also hear noise.
If all you are have is UTP you need to test your cables.

maybe background noise. try noise canceling handsets

on digital crosstalk i do not believe you will hear an analog conversation
