Cross Tab Column Headings 1

Hello,

If a cross tab has more than 1 column (let's say 2) is there a way to align the column headings directly next to each other as opposed to 1 column being on top of the other column?

Ex: |Column 1 Heading | Column2 Heading|

as opposed to

|Column1 Heading|
|Column2 Heading|

You are more likely to see:

Col1Heading1 Col1Heading2
Col2Heading1 Col2Heading2 Col2Heading1 Col2Heading2

So what would you want to see in this case?

I believe the first example provided.
Col1Heading1
Col2Heading1 Col2Heading2

I don't follow your response. Are you saying there is only one instance of Col1? Is it a label or something? Please show an example with actual headings, rows, and summaries.

If it is a label, and you want the col1 to show the total, then remove col1 as a column field, go to the customize style tab, check "show row total on left", and then manually change the "Total" header to the Col1 text.

Column 1 will isn't a total but rather a database field having it's own unique values. Same applies to column 2. I want the layout to have the 2 columns directly next to each other. Currently I can get the field values to line up next to each other but not the column headings. All Totals/Summaries will be suppressed.

Ex: Current layout

Col 1 db desc
-------------
Col 2 db desc
------------
Col 1 value |Col 2 value
-------------------------

Desired Layout:
-----------------
Col 1 db desc | Col 2 db desc
-----------------------------
Col 1 value | Col 2 value

Why are you doing this if you the totals and summaries are suppressed? Are you sure there isn't a better way?

As I requested earlier, please show an example with actual headings, rows, and summaries--I just can't follow what you mean. You can format summaries to be horizontal or you can use conditional formulas to create a horizontal display, but I can't tell what you are going for, and I think it would become obvious with actual data, instead of the abstract description.

I don't think an inserted crosstab would display the way you are showing in your initial example. Please go into the crosstab and identify the column fields as entered into the expert, the row field, and the summary fields, using actual table.field names. I'm just not following this as presented. To get what you are showing, I think there would have to be two summaries.

Here is some additional info:

columns: Standard.StandardID
Objective.ObjectiveID

Row: Student.Name

Summarized Fields: Max of Standard.Letter
Max of Objective.Numeric

NOte: For every standard there can be 1 or more objectives associated to it.

I think you would have to create a manual crosstab to accomplish this, which would entail creating a formula for each column instance, as in:

//{@Std1}:
if {Standard.StandardID} = "Std1" then
{Standard.Letter}

//{@Std1ObjA}:
if {Standard.StandardID} = "Std1" and
{Objective.ObjectiveID} = "A" then
{Objective.ObjectiveLetter}

//etc.

Insert a group on {Student.Name}. Place the formulas in the detail section and insert maximums on them at the group level. Drag the groupname into the group footer. Then suppress the detail section and group header section.
