Hi

I would like to know the easiest way to network (ability to access internet simultaneously) with my current systems. I have a Compaq 5240 PC currently running DSl using EnterNet300 (SpeedStream 5360 modem) downstairs. I have an Imac OS 9.x upstairs. So I need something that can cross-platform. There is an available phone jack in both locations.

Please let me know what equipment I would need and best price scenario. I prefer to go with the wired route. I have SBC YAHOO DSL.

If you need more info, I will glad to give it to you.

Thanks
Mark

There are several devices out there that will do what you need. Linksys is quite popular for DSL. You wouldn't need EnterNet on either machine as it would take care of the PPPOE negotiation. Check out the Linksys BEFSR41 on Amazon.

Will it be possible to use the LinkSys BEFW11S4? The description did not mention compatibity between Mac & Windows. I only ask because I have free access to a BEFW11S4 & a WUSB11 USB adapter?

Thanks
Mark

All communication would be TCP/IP which both platforms use. This would work just fine for you. It doesn't appear that Linksys has drivers for the WUSB11 for Mac.

Personal preference: wired solution. More secure and fewer problems. Albeit less convenient due to wiring.

OK 1 last silly question. If I get the BEFSR41, that is all I need to share dsl internet? Do I need to hook it up to the Mac or the PC? And should I assume that this is a wired set up? If yes is the answer to all these questions, then it all seems pretty simple, and I wish to thank you very much.

Can the HomePortal 100 series or the Linksys BEFSR41 allow a Mac & Windows PC to share a dsl connection only? No other files need to be shared. I already have an external dsl modem, so my only interest is being able to share the internet connection. Would I need any connectors or adapters?

Both the PC and the Mac would need Network Cards. This is also a wired solution.

It would allow the sharing of the Internet connection and the PC and Mac would be able to communicate with each other depending on the application and configuration - but the means is there.
