Cropping

I'm using Photoshop 6.0. When I try to crop an image, if the crop tool is within about 6 pixels of the window edges, it snaps right to the edge making it difficult to crop accurately unless I bring in blue rule guides to where I want to crop. Is there a Snap to Guide like setting somewhere in Photoshop like in QuarkXPress?

Yes, it's under View and then Snap To.

You can also hold the CTRL key (windows) while simultaneously adjusting the crop. Holding the CTRL key allows you to move the crop handles or crop tool without snapping.

Did you try enlarging the image after you set down the cropmarks? You can't use the zoom tool but you CAN use the keyboard equivalent.(command + on a Mac) if you enlarge it enough, you can set the crop lines to the pixel.
