I'm using Sharity 3 to connect to a Window server for disk based backups. The database I'm trying to tar is about 4GB, but the tar always stops at 2GB. I've set the ulimit in etc/security/limits to 12582906 and I've set ulimit -f 12582906 in etc/profile, but nothing seems to work.

What account does cron run under (what acccount's ulimits would affect it)?

Is there a way to split a tar during creation?

I've seen posts in this forum that state that tar is limited only by file system limitations.

I did a quick search and it seems it depends on who's tar you are using.

2 gig. to 8 gig.

why don't you use the backup command instead?

find /Database_directory -print | backup -ivf arch.bkp
