I am trying to update the datasource of a number of scheduled reports from DB2 to ODBC. I can change the datasource locations - no problem. When I try to save the report with the changes I get the error: "Critical error while attempting to communicate with the APS" and I am logged off of the APS. I can log back on and repeat the process and get the same error or not log back on, repeat the process, and get kicked out of Crystal Reports. I am using Crystal Enterprise 9.0. My sense of the problem is that there is some error in my user configuration. Others who are using the same server can perform this service without difficulty, so it seems specific to me. Ideas?

Thanks.

Tom

This is a pretty common bug. Seems to appear whenever one attempts to save a report to which no physical changes have been made.

What I always do is resize a section and then save, works for me:)

Kurt,

Tried the re-size a section tip. No dice. Same error. Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Odd.. Are you the owner of the report, logged on as administrator? Are these reports being opened directly from CE?

No, I am not the owner of these reports. No, I am not logged on as administrator. I am logged on as a user. Yes, these reports are being opened directly from CE. One person who does have administrator privileges can change them and one other person who does not can also change them.

Thanks.

Tom

I'm guessing you don't have privileges to write to the APS database? or the folder the report is located in?

Can you create a simple report and publish it to CE?

Can the admin give you "Full Control" to the report?

Is CE installed on your local machine or on a server? Was CE installed to a non-system drive (D:\, for example)?

I just reinstalled CE9 on my laptop to the D:\ drive, because I was running out of room on my C:\ drive. Every report I modified failed to save back to CE through Enterprise folders with the "Critical error while attempting to communicate with the APS" message you've been getting. I had to modify a registry value, per a Business Objects KB article. Solved my problem...

Following is the link to the article:

I Think there is something else going on with this error.
I've been having this problem for a while now amd the problem it that sometimes its okay when you publish a report and other times it fails for a couple of days then it works again. Very wierd.
I've check the article Kurt mentioned but when reg setting is okay. (CE was installed on the D:)
I've been talk to CD and they wanted me to get a test box built and test it.
It sometime works on the test server and sometimes it works.
The common item is my workstaion, Win2k sp2.
The server are Win2k sp4, SQl 2k sp3.

Any other ideas?

I've just spoken to the Support hotline, and the minimum platform level is Sp3 for Win2k Pro/Server.

I'll update my workstation and see how it goes.
