I just installed an aloha 5.3.26 system and have been working out some kinks. One issue I am having is that none of my credit card transactions are making it to the BOH EDC server. I tracked down in my debout that they are doing a 'mock auth'.

I found about 17 Spooling .spl file in the master term's edc folder, and 1 file titled "SPOOLING".

I saw a similar archived thread but i wasn't able to really follow it in entirety.

how do i go about getting these mock auth .spl file processed into my edc?

ok, so i moved all of the files from the master term's edc folder to the boh server's edc folder and renamed the .spl files to .req and it worked, but it was tedious.

I'm sure there is a more efficent way to do this.

now i just need to wait for a customer to run another card to see what happens. if it stays on master term or if it goes up to the edc like it should.

Your system is "spooling" because your master does not see Alohaboh running EDC. Generally, there are only a few causes for this:

1) The config info in your ibercfg is off (most likely cause). Make sure the SET EDCPATH= is accurate. Ususally something like SET EDCPATH=\\alohaboh\bootdrv\aloha\edc.
Secondly, make sure the SET SERVER value = the name of your BOH computer.

2) EDC may not be running as a service in Windows. Either it has to be installed and running as service, or it must remain open at all times.

As a quick test, try this: Turn off the master computer, and let another terminal become master. Then run a Credit card. If it works, you have narrowed the problem down to the FOH, and likely the ibercfg on the PC that was previously master. If it doesn't work, then either the ibercfg is wrong on both FOH computers, or the back office is not running as a service.

Good luck!

well, i checked all that and everything seemed fine, edc is running as a service and all those values proved to be set up properly.

i'm assuming that once the system starts to spool it continues to spool until i remove all those .spl files. So for the time being i'll chalk it up to gremlins until it happens again.

Everything worked fine after i moved all the .spl files to back of house, and renamed them to .req files. Credits cards for the rest of the day processed fine.

just for my curiosity is there an easier way to process all the .spl files if this happens again in the future? renaming 20ish files wasn't bad, but i'd hate to see what happens if it was busy and i had a hundred odd files to do.

Well, in 90% of cases, that's what cause the problem, so if those value are correct, that it is likely something I haven't seen.

What I can tell you is the problem--in theory--is that EDC is not seeing the Alohaboh. That's when the system goes into spooling mode.

Did it ever work properly? Or has it been like this since day one?

Also, you try deleting the spooling file after you bring the cc's back to the back office. This could fix it if there is a permission problem, etc. However, if there is a truly a problem aside for the spooling file not being deleted, the master terminal will likely create it again, until the problem is fixed.

MC/VC worked right at first, but there were some problems with our amex settings on the edc server. It looks like someone tried to ran an amex card and then everything went to hell.

I fixed the amex settings and all is good.

You most likely still have one more thing to address. If the master in fact continued to "spool" after EDC was running on the BOH the EDC service is probably set to log onto a "system" account. Go to services and change edcsvr to log on with a "user" account, (use a user name and password set as an administrator on the fileserver. I usually use a different account than the computer is logging in with in case some chowder-head decides to change the password...). When logged in with an administrative use account edcsvr will automatically pull the .spl files and remove the spooling marker file from the master's EDC directory.

Cheers

To Novmode:
If you need to rename spl to req as a batch it's pretty simple. Copy all the spl's from the master to your AlohaBOH\EDC on the server. Go to command prompt (DOS)cd\alohaboh\EDC. Then ren *.spl *.req (I'm assumming your comfortable with DOS). Your entire batch of files will immediately begin processing. When you're batched out and satisfied remember to delete the copies still on the master or better yet store the copies somewhere else just to be safe. Don't want to ever double charge all the customers because those 200 refunds are done 1 at a time.
