New hardware detected (modem), but not on comm 1 or 2. It shows modem installed on comm 3. When trying to access the internet I get an error saying "port already in use or installed improperly". How can I change comm ports?

Hi,

Is this modem internal? I was under the impression that internal modems use com ports such as three because com ports 1 and 2 are physical ports and unless you put more I/O ports in the machine 3 upwards are generally just defined in software, let me know what hardwrae you have and what software/OS you are running.

Thank you CorpseGrinder for replying to my question, but I have it working now. I had to go through windows setup... delete communications and reinstall with win98 cd.
