My Live 5.1 Player makes crackling, popping and white noise sounds all the time. Its been installed for 8 months and has worked fine up till now. I hadn't made any changes/installations when the problem started. Strangely CD audio will still play OK through the card but all system sounds and any WAVs or mp3s are just noise and crackling. My system is dual boot Win2000 / Windows 95 and the problem exists on both OS which means its a hardware problem i guess. I took the card out and reinstalled software and drivers but the problem persists. (My computer is intel PIII 1GHz, Abit SA6 intel 815e chipset, 512 mb ram).

Have you gone through the basics and made sure the cable connector for the speakers is pushed in all the way in to it's port at the back of the machine? Is it in the correct port? Does reapplying the soundcard software resolve the problem?

Try moving the card to a different slot. You may need to re-install the driver.

I hope this helps CitrixEngineer@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks for your replies. Yes, i've tried all the above. i changed slots, removed the other pci cards. reinstalled the drivers etc. The problem persists on both OS. i've tried the solutions provided by creative's knowledge base which was to reduce "hardware acceleration" which i did, and also to turn off DMA for my hard drive. I'm going to find another machine to install the card on to see if its the card itself.
