Ok I have a netgear FVS318 and im trying to create a vpn to access the company server from home. I have 4 static IP address 1 is already used to access the internet and DHCP and DNS is already configured on the SBS. Also pop3 connector is running on the server.

Setup goes like this

Internet modem with static ip > netgear FVS318 from that it goes to a netgear 16 port switch which is unmanaged and then goes to the server.

Any ideas how to do this would be very helpful and appreciated.

thanks

so you want to create a vpn from your home to your company through your netgear? are we talking point to point tunnel or using an client application on your desktop?

I would like it to be point to point tunnel. worst case scenario I would use something like logmein.com or another vpn client software.

ok are you allowing vpn traffic on the netgear? is there any firewall on your company side that needs to be opened to hit the server? or port forwarding? what kind of gear is at the company?

The netgear is the firewall and it has VPN capabilites to technically be the VPN server.

Gear is
Internet>netgear vpn firewall> this splits off 1 to the server and another to the 16 port netgear switch> then to clients.

How would I setup the port forwarding?

ok...so on your side you have a netgear firewall...what is on the other side. you first need to make a tunnel using two peers. these peers build a IPsec tunnel for communication. example is your public IP of netgear and public IP of your company firewall, create a policy and create tunnel first

So i need to create a tunnel between the Adit (internet modem) to the netgear vpn firewall. How would i do that? the modem has a static IP.

Firewall has a public IP on the outside example 64.25.57.85 and an internal address for the clients example 192.168.0.xxx. to get to the netgear I put in the 192.168.0.xxx and I can start configuring.

ok im confused...the netgear is at your house or company? the Adit (internet modem) is at your house or company?

Everything that I have mentioned is at the office. The home pc is hooked up to a dlink router with a dynamic ip.

ok so create a tunnel between the netgear and dlink. there is most likely a gui web page with VPN configurations. just make sure they are the same on each device and put each other peer address where needed

Thanks for your help...I'll report back any problems.

thanks again!

he is better off setting up routing and remote access on the server and connecting thru vpn to the server. some dlink routers do not have vpn capabilites and just allow for vpn pass thru.

Network Error:
Hit any user to continue

that is possible...i am not sure what kind of dlink he has....some have vpn capabilities, he may not have RAS capabilities on a server also

I currently run Netgear FVS318 as well for remote clients and you best solution would be to purchase the Netgear VPN software for $50. If you were connecting up a remote site with multiple pc's then 2 Netgear routers.
