I am trying to create user accounts on my new machine and have some questions. I set them to use the c-shell, I put a .login and .cshrc file into /etc/skel. I set up the users with the wizard, tell them to use the c-shell. When I test login as the user it appears the .login and .cshrc aren't having any effect. the user home dir is OK but they are in the /bin/sh shell, not the c-shell. I am probably missing some other setup thing for the skel file. How do I get this to work OR what book do I need to read that talks about this and other admin tasks. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Yeah, that's what I thought I was doing. Apparently, even though I specify /export/home/xxxxxx for the users directory, the creation process is creating the homedir in /home/xxxxxx. Now I am guessing that that might have to do with the check box about mounting the user's home directory. I am going to see if I can fix that in the profile template I'm trying to use. The other thing I did was create appropriate .cshrc, .profile and .login files in the /etc/skel directory which seems like it should work. I'll report back on my experiments.
And THANK YOU for the reply.

I think you need to name them local.cshrc, local.profile, and local.login. You should also check your /etc/auto_home and /etc/auto_master files if they are local accounts. Odds are they are adding their home diretory and username to those files.

Hi,
I modified the /etc/skel info, got rid of the local.xxx files, put in my own .cshrc, .login, .profile etc and did not mount the users home drive via the template I created. All went in OK.
Thanks Very much.
