Creating Universe backups 1

What is the proper way to maintain a universe backup?

Seems like if it is moved to a different directory and given a new file name, that even if it is moved back and renamed back to the original name, that when it is exported the repository will consider it a different universe and any table mappings would have to be redone.

How are other designers creating new versions of their universes and still maintaining previous versions?

Using domains. If you build a new domain, then the universes will automatically be put in a different directory.

There are also several third party tools in the market place that do true version control for universes. A bit like source safe if you are familiar with that. Most people who are truley interested in version control either use one of these 3rd party tools or other version control software.

Domains are good for having different versions of a universe available at the same time, Dev, UAT and Production etc but its not really version control.
