I'm pretty green with exchange tasks, the question is can I create an exchange email account without setting up a Windows account on our domain. The account will just be used for inquiries from our website. Then I need to know how to redirect the mail from the created account to an outside email address at our ISP because their going to take some of the administrative tasks and log them etc.
Any help much appreciated.

You need an account to create a mailbox in Exchange 2000 or later.

OK, so I create it normally. How do I redirect it to an outside email address? Thanks.

You dont need to create a user account, you can just create a contact. Give it a mailbox and set the primary exmail address to the external box.

So, if I send an email to user@yourdomain.com but you want the email to go to user@externaldomain.com then set the @externaldomain.com address as the primary.

1.If you want to receive email, you need to create an AD account first and then create a mailbox for it
2. If you want to forward the received emails to external address, you need to create a contact for that external address, then configure forwarding for your account to that contact. (You will find forwarding settings under user properties - Exchange general - Delivery option)

So far so good but I can't understand why I can't forward to an external address. I've set up delegates and stuff like that internally but when I try to add this external address to 'forward' messages to it wants to verify inside the domain or something...any ideas?

As RichardHuang said : "If you want to forward the received emails to external address, you need to create a contact for that external address

It depends on your definition of receive email. Again, you dont need to create a user account to do that.
