I've seen lots of slipstreaming solutions, but they all seem to involve using FAT32 boot files, which of course are useless for NTFS. I'd like to make my MSDN install disc bootable so it will load the ntldr (?) and begin the install, plus I need a bootable XP disc to install VMWare.
Is there a straightforward solution to this?
Thanks!

What do you mean by MSDN Install Disk. Are you talking about an .iso image? Is the Bios set to boot from CD ahead of the hard drive?

This is from the MSDN site.

"What is an ISO CD Image?
Products posted to Subscriber Downloads are usually posted as ISO image files. An ISO image file is an exact representation of a CD or DVD, including the content and the logical format. ISO files from Subscriber Downloads end with either an .ISO or .IMG extension. The extension might need to be changed to work with your CD writing software.

Common utilities for writing an ISO file to recordable media such as CD-R include ISORecorder, Nero, and Roxio. The contents of images files can be used as virtual discs using utilities such as Virtual CD-ROM Control Panel for Windows XP, ISObuster, or DaemonTools, or Virtual CloneDrive for Windows Vista. Image files can be mounted locally using the (missing this comment?). For more information about image files, please visit the MSDN FAQ".

I still get physical DVD's delivered for my MSDN subscription. Most of them are ISO files, and burning them to disc (Nero) gives me a full install of XP, but the disc is not bootable, whereas the OEM version is. Does this help?

So you receive disks that have .iso files on them? you should be able to copy the iso file to your drive, use nero to burn an image and make a bootable disk.

See if this takes you any further.

"The ISO Image file contains all of the folder and/or file structure for the CD Disk in a compressed form. If the Image File will a bootable CD, it will also contain the Boot Sector information that is needed".
