Howdy,

Just wanted to create a test lab for my new NW6 server. I have a Dell PowerEdge 1650, a client workstation, and a hub that I can use. Basically, I want to set this up without connecting to our current network.

I thought I had it set up correctly, but for some reason I can't log in with my client workstation even though I've verified tree names, context, admin password, etc.

Any tips on what protocols, etc. to use in this test environment?

all you really should need is ip. try setting up your server with an address like 192.168.1.1 and your workstation with 192.168.1.2.

After installing the IP address on each system (server and workstation) ping the server thru workstation vice-versa. if you be able to ping the system, you should be able to login.

Sometimes, even though you can ping back & forth & even though you're on the same subnet, the client will still not be able to see the tree.

This can usually be solved by hard-coding the SLPDA into the workstation client Big Red N-->Novell Client Properties-->Service Location. Just put in the address of your Directory Agent(s) & it should clear up the problem, provided that you have SLP set up on your network.
