I have a subform linked to each record in the main form. The subform has a number of fields some of which may or may not contain data depending which record on the main form is open. Is it possible to create a summary box on the main form which takes its contents from the populated fields in the subform?
Each form has a separate table
TIA

OK. I think I understand what you are trying to do. Couple of Questions:

1. What version of Access are you using?
2. You are wanting a summary box. Do you mean a text box that displays a total value based on what is displayed in the subform?

many thanks for replying:

1. Access 2002
2. exactly!

I did it by having a textbox called txtValue on the FormFooter part of the subform with Control Source as

=Sum([Value])

Then you can define a text box on the main form with control source as

=[frmInvoiceDetail].[Form]![txtValue]

This updates the totals box whenever a record is added or changed and it seems to work Okay.
