Is there a way of creating a reverse block effect in a character style?

I think I'm on to something but not too sure. I'm creating a thick strikethrough that would work fine but I can't get the text visible through the strikethrough. Is there a way of bringing the text forward over the strikethrough? Or perhaps altering the transparency of the strikethrough?

I seem to remember Quark being able to do this but can't seem to get Indesign doing it.

Easy - Use a paragraph rule, make it the weight of the height of the reverse box you require, colour it to suit your needs, adjust the offset to position it or adjust be offset of the type - sometimes a combination of the 2 works best.

Thanks a lot Tad.

You've saved me quite a bit of work with this handy piece of knowledge.
