Hi,

I am not sure if this is the forum I should be posting this to, but I couldn't find another to really fit.

My goal is to creating a cardplaying program/website. I guess it's more of creating a program that can be downloaded and allow people to connect to it. What kind of technology/languages/etc would you recommend I use/learn to develop this. I have created some programs with Java already, but do not know really how to allow for connections and such.

Any ideas?

Thank you,
JG

Is this intended for commerce? You may consider going to elance.com or guru.com and ask for professional services. Creating such a game is fairly complex. Also, I would strongly suggest that you clearly determine all your requirements in advance and throw out those that you really don't need.

As a side note, most people today are behind firewalls and proxies. It is very likely that you would have to create such a game using the HTTP protocol, just because of the fanatical firewalling that is common practice.

You may want to check out the Gatling Engine over at The guy that created it (Ed) goes by the handle "Bugladen". He has a group of guys that write the code for the various games that are supported by the enginge. He may lead you in the right direction.

To make it just for fun, it will not be very cheap to get a server, where you may choose the programming - language.

Perhaps a free dynamic ip will be of more sense, if you have a flatrate already.
