I have to reinstall my XP from scratch using an XP CD which includes SP2. Part way into the installation it asks for a floppy disc with drivers on it. I have no such thing in the kit given to me by the vendor of the machine so I am stuck at this point. I have searched for a step by step solution to this problem e.g. constructing a floppy from scratch but don't know which files I need and where to get them.

Try to describe the point you reach during installation, where the call for drivers occurs. Also, give motherboard make and model number, and what type of hard drive, e.g. IDE, SATA, etc., is being used.

ROGER - G0AOZ.

The message is 'Press F6 if you need to install 3rd party SCSI and RAID drivers'

The message comes up on the blue screen when it is installing the drivers for all the hardware.

Motherboard is ABIT KV8 PRO
The drives are MAXTOR 6 L200M0 SCSI Disc Device
and ST 320082 6AS SCSI Disc device

After doing a Google search on ST320082 6AS SCSI, I found 2-3 instances where other people were reporting certain SATA drives showing up as SCSI drives. I didn't search further, but unless you know you have a SCSI drive, this is probably your problem. Unfortunately, I did not find a resolution for this. Have you tried just ignoring the message and NOT pressing F6?

These are SCSI drives - I found the information from the System.

It will not ignore the request fro a floppy disc - it appears later asking for an OEM drivers disc specifying the A; drive as the input device.

That's the problem. It's the system that is interpreting the devices as SCSI. Both are, in fact SATA devices. Look up the drives on Seagate's web site (Seagate also owns Maxtor). The ST320082 is not specifically listed in their product support list, but search on st3200826as and it will show up. The Maxtor is listed.

So, your problem may require a MOBrd firmware update or you may have to go to your system mfg to resolve the matter.

Dongle - bit confused - are you pressing F6 when it prompts? Because that is what later causes it to ask for floppy with drivers? If you are not and its still prompting, I'm confused - sounds like your install disk has been produced with edited config. If you are - why are you? have you tried without pressing F6? If you do need the drivers, Molaker has done some research for where you can find them. Most recent motherboards have a feature that allows SATA drives to be seen as IDE - so XP can see them without drivers. I see your board has a bios update available for April last year - so reasonable chance that may include such a feature if not already on the board.

An embarrassment of assistance from you all for a task I thought would be easy. I have done it before on a previous machines without any problems with drivers. However I ma going to leave this struggle for the time being and proceed with my video editing etc which I find far more satisfying. You may see me pop up again sometime if I have solved the problem easily. Slip streaming is a possible avenue for investigation.

Thanks
