Hi everyone. I'm using Flash 8 Pro. Here's what I would prefer to create:

Right now I have a movieclip titled main_mc. On the main page I have 3 layers, content - labels - actions. Right now I have 4 keyframes on my content section (will be much more when I'm finished.) Each keyframe is respectfully labeled - Home - About - Manufactuers - Contact. With a stop action on each keyframe.

What I want to create is a curtain type effect. So each time a user clicks on a button to take them to a new page a "curtain" will animate in to cover the exisiting content. As the curtain raises back up the new content will appear (new page.) A similar type of effect can be seen here:
Can someone please help me achieve this effect?

Thanks,

Thanks oldnewbie for that post. Thats an excellent tutorial. I'm trying to give you a star, but my java is always wierd on this computer and I can't get the pop up to open.

That tutorial uses external swf's, whereas I'm using just movie clips on my main timeline for my pages. Should I create each indidual page as a seperate swf? Is there an advantage to doing that?

If the answer to the above question is yes... Is there a way to take the movieclips I already have created, and make them their own swf, or do I have to recreate them? Probably could ues the library and just drag each movie clip into it's own file couldn't I?

Thanks,

ps I'll keep trying to give you that star.

Select all the frames in a MC, right click on them and click "copy frames", make a new flash document, right click on the first frame and click "paste frames", and voila.

You have to do the clicking, because ctrl-c and ctrl-v won't work. :l

You could use something similar with movie clips within your main movie also. But one of the advantages of using external .swfs is that they can each be modified or updated individually, rather than having to recompile the main movie each time. Assuming they were on the heavy side, then using seperated external .swfs would also diminish the initial preloading time.

Right on, I only had 4 pages complete so I'll just make them into seperate .swf's, and do a little reading on loading external swf's :). Shouldn't be to difficult.

Still having a small problem.

I created each page in a seperate .fla. I've encountered two problems.

1st:
My main page gives the user an option to choose between two different locations (layout is different then the rest of the pages.) I don't want to load an external .swf file until I click on my first button. The problem I'm having is, the way that toturial was set up it's looking for an external on the first frame, and immediately runs the preloader transition effect. I need it to be set up so it plays my animation and then reaches the stop(); Then when I click on one of the two buttons it would run the preloader for the external swf. No clue how to do it though.

2nd:
Once I get on either of the different locations pages the effect works great. Except, my external swf contains scrolling text. Lets say the external swf is titled external.swf and my main page is titled main.swf. When I preview the external.swf the text displays how it should and works great. However, when I preview the main.swf the text is not appearing from the external.swf. Everything else displays from the external.swf, except the text. The scrollable buttons display and work, the border of the text displays, the pictures display, but the text is non-existant. Any clues on how I can fix this?

Anyone have any help to offer?

thanks,
