Create Write-Only Folders in Windows 2003

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a folder that only allows users to create or modify pst files but restricts them from reading such files.
Is there a way to achieve this in folder permission/security settings in Windows 2003?
If not, what other way can this be achieved?

Yes if you give read&execute + write + modify permissions to creator owner, should do the trick so anyone can create and modify and read their own files but not anyone else's

You do realize that Microsoft does not support, and explicitly recommends against storing .pst files on a share, right?

also remember that if you are using a share that the most restrictive perms will apply when using share perms and ntfs perms. So if a share its better to just give everyone full control share permissions and limit access with ntfs. I am assuming you are using an NTFS volume.

But I don't want the owners to be able to read their own files. I just want them to be able to write or overwrite the files inside their folders without being able to read the files in the folders.

UUmm ok, I can understand special case scenarios for somethings but this sounds really weird thing to do for PST files, so you want users to add emails to the pst files but not be able to retrieve them??? Read is a requirement for modify, so they won't be able to modify but you can have them write. That should give them the rights to over write. What are you trying to do exactly? You may need to give special perms to delete to overwrite, you'll have to verify that.

I'm trying to create a special folder for backing up pst files for users using pfbackup utility. I also want to prevent users from being able to open the pst files from outlook, hence the "read access" restriction.
i hope this clears it up a little bit.

well if you just give the users write access and nothing else to that directory they can create files and overwrite files. Now if you want them to see the files you can give the List Folder Contents perms as well. This will not give them access to read the contents of the files just see them.

Unfortunately, giving the users write access only allowed them to create files, but they could not overwrite the files once created. This is my main problem.

It looks like write access lets you create the file only once, it does not allow any overwrite or modification.

Also keep in mind that you can't open a .pst file unless you have write access to it. That's by design.
