create VPN connection

hello

i have a bizar problem in Win XP
i try to create a VPN connection, following the wizards, but at the end win XP created a dial up connection, so the problem is that even when a create a VPN connection, he automatically configures a dial up connection

is here somebody who had already the same problem with XP, and did you found a solution for this problem

Give us some more information. What are you using as a VPN server, are you using the Windows VPN client built into XP? What protocols are you using on the VPN?

I am using a Cisco PIX firewall as the VPN hardware in our corporate office.

I've setup VPN clients a gazillion times, using Win2000 or WinXP built-in client. But for some reason, on one user, when I go through setting up his VPN client on his WinXP on his laptop, the VPN connection I just created shows up as a 'Dial-up' type.

It's weird.

That link you posted... I do everything it says, but at the end, where the newly created VPN connection shows up under 'Virtual Private Networks'. In my case the newly created VPN connection would show up under 'Dial-up' as a dial-up connection.

It's not a profile issue, I've tested it. And it's got the latest SP and Windows update.

My apologies for not posting back sooner. I have one question before we move on (and yes, I have to ask ;-) ). When setting up the VPN client you aren't "clicking through" the screen that gives you the option for VPN or Dial up?

I specifically click on the "VPN" option. I've been in the game too long to mistakenly choose "Dialup" =)

Alternatively, does anyone know of any good third-party PPTP VPN client software that runs on Windows XP Pro?
