I'm not a PSP whizz, so I thought I'd ask people who were!
I'm trying to build an image based on 2 layers.
I have a map as one image and an image of blue dots on a white background. I want to put the blue dots on the map background.
I can paste the dots as a transparent selection, but then I've got to mess around getting it exactly in the right place. I can import it as a new layer into the document, but I can't work out how to make the white background transparent on that layer only.

Am I missing something?

Hi Pharah

If you haven't already done so, promote your map to a layer
(Layers/Promote Background Layer)making sure the opacity is set to 100%.

If you already have this as a layer, Layers/Properties will let you check and if necessary change the opacity to 100%.

With the Magic wand, select the white background of your dots graphic.

Go to Selections/Invert and copy.

Then paste into your map as a new layer.

Good Luck.

Yes, use your magic wand set at feather 0 to select the white area (make sure your layer is a raster layer), then just hit the delete button -- this will render the white areas transparent so your map layer will show through.

Another method is to take the white background with blue dots into Animation Shop and select Animation/Replace Color, set your color to change to white and the replacement to transparent and click OK. Then take the image back into PSP.

Hope this helps.

I sorted this a using masks in the end.
Basically I copy the dots over the map as a new layer, then create a mask layer from the dot image and voila!

Thanks for your thoughts though guys.
