Hi,

One of my Livelink users have the following question for me. I have copy pasted the entire mail here -

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hi Ashis,

I'm wondering if there is a way to create a report for LiveLink that will tell me:
1) the most downloaded document(s) and/or how often each was viewed (and by whom and when, if possible)

2) what each user has downloaded/viewed

I looked in the help function and know I can get to this information via "Ratings" but I have to go into each document and see who's viewed what -- there are over 100 documents so I'd like to figure out if there's a way to get this information more efficiently. Thanks! "

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Could anyone please advice me a way to do this. I know this can be done through developing a LAPI program. Could you please send me a code snippet on this or any LAPI example code regarding this so that I can refer that code for building the LAPI program.

Thanks and Regards,

Ashis

There should be no need to look at the Ratings stuff, assuming that you are auditing these events you can create a simple query on the Audit table and join it with the User table to get this information.

On a related note I am posting here a tweak that is in practice.A typical use case would be a manager responsible for a particular high level folder asking for "Hit stats".Unfortunately a folder browse is not generating an event so you cannot get it.The round about way is to use a tools such as the freebie logparser from MS and look at the livelink webserver logs and look for the objid in qn.But the simple tweak that is in use in the LL community is like this. You just create a simple gif small pixel image, and load it into the folder and keep it hidden and use that in the presentation function of the folder. Then audit on the gif's dataid.Every time sombody comes to the folder the gif is fetched and you can get your stats.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Thanks a lot Greg and Appu.

Greg, I had also mailed you regarding this problem. I got the answer here. I will try to follow what has been advised and will keep you updated.

I plan to make a career as a LiveLink SME and will need your guidance on this. Thanks again.

Hi appnair,

Really thanks for your post. I was looking for some way to find the folder hit count. I couldn't get any way to find that. your idea is useful.

Bala
