I am creating a database for the company i work for to track historical job data. I have five tables setup with one 2 many relationships with proper linking IDs (verified with local IT personnel). The tables are as follows: Job, Item, Data, Description, and Category. For every job there is X items, for every item there are X Data points, for every data point there is one description, and for every category there are x descriptions. I have already created simple forms for the tables with fixed values i.e. only so many jobs, only so many categories, only so many descriptions. The form I need to create is a form such that when I select the job, item, and category it will auto propogate all descriptions under the selected category and allow me to enter the associated data points for each description.

Sounds like you need a form with a subform. The subform's data source would be set to a query that is based on the main form's inputs.

I concur that I need a form with a subform. I am however a noob and require a bit more assistance with exactly how I would go about creating a form with dynamic subform. does anyone have a link to a sample solution to this issue?

Have you looked at the forms in the sample database (Northwinds) that comes with Access?

Randy

I have the Northwind database open right now in Access 2007. I don't see any sample that is exactly what I am trying to accomplish. I am brand new to database design, my actual job description is engineering, but this particular project has been assigned to me and I am determined to get it done correctly. Please help if possible.

The chances are you won't find any example that EXACTLY matches what you're doing. But you should find form/subform examples for how to get started.
